ARAU (Atelier de Recherche et d'Actions urbaines)
is an association of Brussels residents, which examines urban development projects, both public and private, and attempts to improve them from the point of view of local residents, by suggesting more housing, more mixed-function buildings, a more varied mix of social classes and devotion of public space for the use of active citizens. Our objective is to promote the city as a place where people want to live.
Since 1977, ARAU has also organized guided tours of Brussels under the generic title "Brussels seen by its residents". These tours aim to boost the image of the city and to help participants better understand its development, its riches and its changes. Today it is still in the goal to raise awareness of the history and historic buildings of Brussels among visitors that ARAU offers 20 guided tours, covering various themes, that can be enjoyed as individuals on a public tour (in French or English), or by group on private tours :
