Winssinger HouseThis Art Nouveau mansion with a wide facade of white limestone was designed by Victor Horta and built between 1894 and 1897 for the engineer Camille Winssinger, a close colleague of Ernest Solvay. Inside is a pretty winter garden and a huge stairwell flooded with daylight, whose walls are decorated with paintings of lush vegetation. Between 1927 and 1929, the facade and interior were altered as the house was converted into a block of apartments. Further changes were made in 1947 when the house was converted for use as offices by an insurance company. The house was purchased four years ago by its current owner who has a passionate interest in Horta's buildings, and is currently undergoing a comprehensive restoration to restore it to its former glory.
