The Art Nouveau and Art Deco Tombs in Ixelles CemeteryOpened in 1877, this cemetery witnessed the arrival and development of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles, as shown in the funerary monuments there. The Solvay family tomb, designed by Victor Horta, blends elements of both styles together. The cemetery contains a beautiful collection of monuments in the various contemporary styles of architecture of the inter-war years: Art Deco, Beaux-Arts and Modernist. Many of the monuments were made of granite by the Ixellois stonemasons Beernaert & Co. The cemetery also contains the tomb of Victor Horta, designed by his faithful disciple Jean Delhaye. Guided tours organised in collaboration with the EPITAAF Funerary Art Association.
