This house was designed by Victor Horta for his friend the university professor Emile Tassel and was built in 1893. It occupies a major place in the history of architecture, as it was the first Art Nouveau house built in Brussels. All the features that Horta would go on to develop in other buildings are already evident in this building: the use of an exposed iron skeleton, the integration of the decoration with the structure, fluid, flexible spaces and openings and a skylight to admit daylight to the heart of the house. A veritable  portrait house it offers all the features requested by its owner. Today the building is used as offices by the European Food Information Council (EUFIC), a non-profit organisation which provides the media, healthcare professionals, nutritionists and teachers with information on food safety, food quality and nutrition, based on scientific research. It ensures that all this information can also be understood by consumers.
