The architect Jean-Jules Eggerickx designed the The Wheel garden suburb in collaboration with the town-planner Louis Van der Swaelmen for the Anderlecht Housing Association, and construction began in 1921. The rows of semi-detached houses surrounded by small gardens were inspired by similar developments in the UK. In 1938, the estate was provided with a primary school designed by the architect Henri Wildenblanck in the Modernist style. Inside, the indoor playground has a beautiful glass ceiling depicting children playing and a huge Art Deco light fitting.
