In 1928, the two major buildings designed by the Art Deco architect Antoine Courtens were the Palais de la Folle Chanson at Ixelles and this house for the engineer Robert Haerens and his wife, the sculptress Luisa Robelus. Courtens was asked to design two separate apartments, each with its own entrance. The larger of the two is on the first floor and has a monumental entrance on the Avenue Brugmann. The central, circular entrance hall has a domed ceiling which allows daylight to flood into the centre of the apartment. As always in Courtens' buildings, the finishes are of a very high quality and include marble marquetry and ironwork designed by the architect. The building's facades were recently renovated and it is now used as offices.
