Former Plaza CinemaBetween 1928 and 1931, this complex, which includes a luxury hotel and a cinema seating 1,300, was built to the designs of Michel Polak, the Swiss architect who had already designed the Résidence Palace. Polak used much cutting-edge technology in his design for the cinema, including air-conditioning, acoustics and sound-proofing to ensure the hotel's guests were not disturbed. The cinema auditorium has fortunately survived and its unique Hispanic-Arabic-Moorish decorations have been restored. The former boxes, the rich, applied decorations on the walls inspired by Andalusian motifs and the stage in front of the screen give an inimitable sense of style to this room, now used for a variety of events.
