Chancery of the French EmbassyThis building was designed by the French architect Georges Chedanne, who had previously designed the French Embassy in Vienna, and was completed in 1911. It has always been used by the French Embassy, and has undergone very few changes. It is unique among Brussels buildings because it represents the Parisian school of Art Nouveau, and its facade balances straight lines and curves. As he had done in previous projects, Chedanne used the well-known Perret Brothers firm of builders from Paris to construct his design and the cabinet-maker Tony Selmersheim to make the wooden decorations. It is unclear who made the ironwork, but we know that Chedanne had worked with Louis Majorelle, the leading light of the Nancy School, on many occasions, so it is eminently reasonable to imagine that the ironwork here was made in Majorelle's studio in Nancy.
